Galapagos Video, Re-Post

I thought I should re-post this video again where it can easily be clicked on and viewed rather than going to this link and that link. I know it’s a bit long in this world of instant gratification but for those of us who love the underwater world, it has some pretty cool stuff in it. So, if you have 33 minuets to spare check it out.

(I sent in footage to the Whale Shark Research Institute and they confirmed that the female in this video was pregnant.)

Excerpt II – Does This Island Go To The Bottom?

I stood on the white sand of Coki Beach. The warm Caribbean water in front of me was like tinted glass, smooth and blue. I had never seen water this calm and clear. It was as though God dumped massive amounts of chlorine into the ocean. The clouds danced swiftly in the wind. Thatch Cay stood majestically across the channel. The small island seemed to hold a secret mysteriously hidden since the days of pirates. Coki Beach had only a few people scattered about it at this time in the morning. Mainly local West Indians. A few were walking the beach. Some were enjoying a nice early swim. A small group of kids were playing on and jumping off a jetty of rocks into the water: splashing and laughing with no worries in the world. Coral World stood in the background; an underwater observatory rising up from the ocean floor with a huge, semi- flattened dome like a flying saucer.

I turned away from the water and saw the first safari bus full of pasty white tourists roll onto the beach. Marty the Jew was behind the wheel chewing on his filthy dog turd. That’s when all hell broke loose. . .

Deceptive Times

Check it out, turns out my open water scuba instructor, Matthew Liburdi, who certified me 19 years ago has turned novelist. His book is called “Deceptive Times.”  The reviews have been great! Underwater thriller and action packed. Awesome read, and what’s better is it’s also a series, “Deceptive Times x2” and a third coming soon. You can find more info at www.deceptivetimes.com.

Star Gerren, Aruba

During my last few mouths working in Aruba for Pelican Adventures, I had the opportunity to watch the sinking of the Star Gerren. I was watching from one of our dive boats with my scuba gear ready. It’s not every day you get to dive a ship right after it’s sunk for an artificial reef.

Two ships with water cannons flooded the Gerren. It seemed to take forever, like the ship didn’t want to go down. Until finally it started to list to one side and suddenly the ocean swallowed her up.

I quickly donned my gear, knowing full well I wasn’t going to see much of the ship due to the explosion of sand that clouded around it when she hit the ocean floor. But what the hell, I was one of the first divers to dive her.  It was eerie hearing her steal creek and buckle underwater as she settled into her resting place.

The next day I dove on her again. This time the vis had cleared to 70 feet and she was an awesome sight to see. The marine life wasted no time making the Gerren their home. Schools of fish swam in military formation in and all around the wreck. It was a great dive.

Unfortunately, she was only sunk in 45 feet of water. And in a short time huge residual swells from hurricanes in the eastern Caribbean  reduced her from the beautiful fully intact ship she was, to the  twisted , broken up metal she now is.

This picture was taken the day after she sank.

Excerpt-Does This Island Go To The Bottom?

“I awoke choking on wet sand. My head was in blanket of fog and I could feel my brain slosh around in my skull when I tried to move. ‘Jesus, what the hell happened? Where was I?’ I looked around and saw the moon light shimmering off the black Aruban water. I rose up on my elbows, waiting for my eyes to adjust. Damn, I was laying on the beach close to the waters edge. My shirt was gone and I only had one flip-flop on. I started to get up and noticed a pair of panties lying on my chest. That’s what happened!
I jolted up in a panic! It was past three in the morning and I had to lead the two tank dive in a few hours . . . .”

I decided to re-post this chapter from my book,  “Does This Island Go To The Bottom?” I haven’t blogged, posted or written anything on this site lately. All my attention has been channeled into my novel. I am almost there! But once finished the hard part will start. Let me know what you think. I’ve said it before,so I’ll say it again, “I’m not a writer. I just have a story to tell.”
